Dinner Table Chronicles: Birthday Cookie

My dining companions are typically my family, as described here, and also include friends and extended family:

Me, Christine
I don't eat much but love to try all kinds of different foods. I have few quirks with food, some of which are quite typical, I think. I really don't like my food touching each other; I don't like to eat fast as that would diminish my enjoyment; I don't like spicy food. I tend to avoid alcohol, caffeine, and dairy (lactose intolerance). I have a shellfish allergy, so I try to avoid that too in my life. However, I love lobster, crab, prawns, and the like; sometimes, I just eat it despite my allergy (since it isn't fatal) and go swallow some Benadryl. Thank goodness for Benadryl.

Husband (Mark)
Mark loves food and is an adventurous eater of everything. He is wonderful and indulges me in wherever I want to go. Only one flaw in his eating that he inherited from the other men in his family -- he eats too fast! I often wonder if he even chewed his food properly, if he even tasted his food, and if he even savoured every precious bite.

Daughter, Aged 14 (Marissa)
Marissa used to be the fussiest of eaters. How fussy? She refused to eat hamburgers until she turned 11. She would pick at her food and sit at the table for hours when she was little. Yes, we were cruel parents; we made her sit until she finished her dinner (a protein, a carb, and a vegetable). But good habits had to grow from somewhere. And now, she is a great eater of all things nutritious and a few things not so nutritious. We are just grateful that she has learned to eat her veggies first and her carbs last, so that if she gets full, it's her carbs that will be left behind. I am pleased to be able to describe her now as an adventurous eater.

Daughter, Aged 10 (Kiki)
Kiki never had a problem with food. As a baby, she was as quiet as a mouse...but when she got hungry, we would discover the power of her lungs. She is another adventurous eater, an excellent dinner companion, and eats whatever is put in front of her.
